Due to the high mechanical and thermal loads, turbine blades have long been made from special nickel-based alloys and additionally coated for higher erosion resistance. Profile contour and surface quality are manufactured and checked against the component’s aerodynamic and thermal requirements. An accurate profile alone does not determine the flow regime in operation.
