Contact surfaces with a defined function

Wear parts support, guide or contact the workpiece. EHWA describes designs for centreless and cylindrical grinding machines, bearing manufacture and measurement. Their function differs from that of the grinding wheel: contact geometry, support, friction and wear behaviour are decisive.

A suitable contact surface can support consistent workpiece guidance and longer service intervals. Design connects machine geometry with the component and its surface. The product area includes PCD, PCBN, carbide and ceramic; material selection is assigned to the actual contact task.

Select material and surface together

The Wear Parts sheet describes PCD wear resistance and polished contact surfaces to reduce friction. For ceramic, the source names chemical resistance. These properties are used as design objectives and assessed against workpiece material, loading and media used.

A wear-resistant surface alone does not determine the correct geometry. Blades, shoes and V-blocks need a contact position suited to the component and machine. For replacement parts, a drawing, mounting details and previous contact marks are particularly useful.

Comparison considers wear-part dimensional change, workpiece surface condition and service life together. The new design should support the required component quality throughout its use; this does not establish a general lifetime.

Catalogue example: support and contact

The product sheet shows centerless blades and support shoes and V-blocks as work-rest parts. The supplementary Wearless excerpt shows bearing backing plates, dead centres, special gauges and guide blades. These are different contact components whose shapes are adapted to the application.

For a support blade, the workpiece contact surface and machine fastening are considered together. A gauge also has a measurement function. These examples help assign a drawing to the correct component family and discuss material and surface requirements in detail.
